Weekly Update 28/03/08
Help Us Out: Add your game to the showcase | Help us keep RR online
Why do I bother eh? I make my minions sit around all night, scouring the forums for new news, playing demos, viewing screen shots and generally immersing themselves in other peoples fantasies (though normally only at weekends…..) and all so I can write a little info-type round up of the latest WIPs. So I sit down at my typewriter (fangled computers, never understood em!) and bash away for hours on end ensuring the very latest up to the minute blurb gets put onto the website. I tie it to the leg of a carrier pigeon and send it directly to my secretary who scans it in and submits it for publication and what do I find out? You’ve only gone and added MORE!!!!!
This week a belly wobbling 4 new projects have hit the virtual doormat at Remakes Towers so let’s waste time no more as we have a cheeky li’l lookie at…….
Jet Boot Jack. Actually, if I had been following my normal routine of doing the round ups last thing on a Thursday evening last week, then this would have been in there. As it is, Musti gets pride of place as our opening WIP this week. In a week of remakes-I-never-played-first-time-around-itus, this little piece of platform joy is possibly the most familiar of the lot. Jet Boot Jack is a run around and collecty game in a similar vein to Manic Miner et al. The objects our Jack desires are musical notes. Pick em all up to clear the screen, avoid the nasties and just, well, don’t die. It’s a game in the genre that Musti does best and you can see how it’s progressing here

And from 2d platformer to 3d deathfest. A game promising blood and gore at every turn is Earok’s Derelict, a FPS set in a dark future world inspired by the Space Hulk universe. There is a beta on Earok’s site and you can follow this dark corridorto the forum thread to let the man know just WHY killing everything that moves is a GOODTHING ™

Remakes of classic games need very little introduction, a single remake inspired by about 20 different games, however, might. DanO (insert Hawaii 5-0* quote HERE) has clearly taken Thrust and played around with it to produce Cavern Lander. And I quote the great man himself…
The game itself will (probably) end up as a cross between Lander, Thrust, Gravitar and ChopLifter. Or something.
And who am I to argue. All I know is it’s VERY green and you can get a beta here. You want a forum thread to go to? I could MURDER ONE (come on, it’s the best I could do at short notice!)
*He’s never heard that joke before, honest, I asked him

And finally, following our Egyptian theme (eh?) please feast your optical receptacles upon this lovely looking screen shot below…

It be Pharaoh’s Tomb and the master of the tomb (and, I assume, the person most likely to suffer it’s curse) is none other than Makis. Another new forum member pimping his wares via the medium of Retro Remakes, let’s face it, it’s what we do bestest. It belongs in the envelope of ‘games I’ve never heard of’ but according to the Wikimeister (let’s face it, it’s NEVER wrong) it was a shareware game published by Apogee way back when. It’s a platformer with more of a look of explore me up than most and I wish Makis the very best of luck in getting it finished. If you would like to echo my sentiments then I think you know where to go.
Right, I’m off to the bookies to put money on there being another barrage of WIP awaiting perusal next week. Don’t let me down!
