It’s Settlers Jim, but not as we know it… well to be honest it actually is pretty much as we know it, but I wasn’t going to allow such a trifling point to stop me using that quote.

The open source (GPL) remake WideLands has been updated to build 10 a little while ago, which includes updates such as a new tribe called The Empire, the “Tribe Ware encyclopaedia”, more music, higher res graphics and many many bug fixes.

I used to play Settlers on the Amiga for hours on end, although to be honest most of the reason was my ex made me “because she liked the sound effects especially the grunting pigs in the pigfarm”…. Ooooh-kaay then.

Oh.. it’s available ready compiled for Linux, Windows, MacOSX, and hot off the presses there is a port for FreeBSD also. If you are feeling daring you could always grab the source and compile it for yourself.

Harbour Attack

Harbour Attack Retro Game Remake

My closest friend bar my good wife had a C16. For those looking a bit confused right now, no - its not a cassette with a spare minute left over, its the wonderful “Why did they release that?” model from Commodore. Although largely ignored at the time, it was home to quite a few lovely games when not having to suffer cut down ports of larger 8 bit titles (ref: Monty On The Run as a prime example) and added a much needed bit of spice to my younger gaming habits thanks to the majority of my friends at the time owning Speccys.

Why am I telling you this now? Well, because I’m posting a quick fire remake from Splodgeman of Harbour Attack I’d like to put out a request of my own for someone to please remake either Xargon Wars or Dark Tower please.

As well as spanking out Harbour Attack, Splodge has just reupped one of his early projects in the shape of Scramble. So you can consider this post a two for one bonus for those who read this far.

ZTack Retro Game Remake

Oooh, there appears to be a bit of spillage over at Acoders right now. With not one, but two remakes for you to go and grab. Lovely stuff indeed.

First up there’s the tried and tested Space Invaders, and as a special bonus - Z-Tack2, a remake of the Atari2600 game Z-Tack.

Cool.

Arcanacra Very Nice Ta

Tim at Independent Gaming has not long posted about Arcanacra, a rather fine if small little shooter from Kei Mesuda - the chap responsible for the rather fab Invisible Vision and NomltestFS.

Click on the game window to add credits, then usual controls kick in.

Space Zap Retro Style Game

Karcreate has posted another rather fine image from his homage to the laser disc style of gaming upon our forums. Its a work in progress animation for you to cast your eyes over, and it makes me smile.

What more could you want? Aside from the game, yesterday. Obviously.

Findee here.
