Man, you kids today - you’ve got it just so easy.

Darnit, I’d even go so far as to say you’re spoilt rotten.Sitting there with your Xbox Live Achievments on Geometry Wars, bragging about your scores and how long you survived for.

Well, man - I hate to break it to you, but you really do have it easy. You’ve got time to think, man. Y’hear? Time to think.

Back when I were but a small boy, games didn’t even see that as a requirement to play. What do you need to be thinking for anyway? Round these parts all we need is an itchy trigger finger and the fastest reactions in the west…

…and that, ladies and gentlemen brings us to Wild West Hero.

Wild West Hero is the rawest Robotron clone you’ll ever clap eyes on, everything you know, in this case, is wrong. You barely have time to blink before the screen is filled with enemies, and boy, do they want your blood.

They’re not going to hang around either, the instant they spawn in, you follow and you better be prepared and have planned or you’re dead meat.

There’s only one type of nasty on display here, but really - you don’t want to be seeing anymore because when theres a screen full of these guys, your pants are already going to be filling with something ever so slightly foul smelling.

Paul Holmes stripped the game to its barest essentials, and in the process made an overlooked classic. Not only that, but he’s also responsible for the ZX Spectrum conversion of Robotron that very nearly never was. But, there’s a story there and its not our place to tell it…not when Stu Campbell can do a far better job than us.

So, try Skyclad Monkeys excellent remake but be warned…don’t, whatever you do, stop to think.
