2007 Remakes Competition

Woo, for those itching for their competition fix this year - our most excellent friends over at Computer Emu Zone are running their very own 2007 Remakes Competition with over 5000 euro’s of prizes up for grabs.

The rules? Simple:

  1. Remakes have to be from Spanish games.
  2. No matter what nationality you are, as you always fulfill the rule # 1.
  3. The Remakes can´t be updates or upgrade versions from games already published.
  4. Remakes can be for every system or device.
  5. Entries for the contest have to be in advanced status, at least a “Beta” version (playable version with more than 70% done).
  6. Games have to be sent to CEZ Server before 31st of July 2007 at 00:00 hrs. (time in Spain). Beyond this time there won’t be more entries, but we’ll accept updates for entries until 10th of August if they fulfil rule # 5.
  7. Results will be published in 30st September 2007, in Computer Emuzone website and other media.

There’s a huge untapped wealth of cracking Spanish games crying out for a remake so I can’t wait to see what comes from this competition. So, good luck to everyone and may the best man/woman/team/sheep win!

jbjovi, there are currently no plans for an Official RR Competition this year - but it is very heartwarming to see that there IS a competition for games remaking on CEZ and I hope that lots of our regulars will choose to take part and make something for it.

Cheers to Punisher for posting the list. Cor, but there’s a lot of rip-off titles, at least on the C64. :/

  24. The Punisher on January 31st, 2007 3:08 pm

Yep, there are a lot of “clones”, of classics in the Spanish game list, but it´s usual to find clones and rip off tiles on the 80´s. Take Ocean for example, and their “Kong” games… copied without license from the Nintendo and Universal Arcades…

There are a lot of original games in the Spanish scene in the 80´s, take the Opera Soft games, or the Made In Spain range, for example…

Colombo, I’m not entirely sure what your issues are here - no-one has suggested for a second that your country is in any way short of talent.

A lot of us have immense respect for the work of not only the Spanish remakers, but the original Spanish game writers.

A lot of Spanish work didn’t make it across to England upon its original release, and its only since emulation and remaking came to the fore that a lot of the stuff has been within our grasp.

Trust me, if I didn’t have utmost respect for what your country produced and continues to produce I wouldn’t offer up front page news for the competition.

    But I do.

However, not for a second will I refrain from offering a comment in jest about something, especially when the game I’m jesting about is infamous over here more for its cover artwork being quite unlike anything we were used to seeing in magazines at that point.

Its not a slur on your country so if we can get back to discussing the competition and the post in question, that would be lovely thanks. I apologise if I’ve misread or misunderstood your post, my Spanish is a little rough at the best of times.
