2007 Remakes Competition

Woo, for those itching for their competition fix this year - our most excellent friends over at Computer Emu Zone are running their very own 2007 Remakes Competition with over 5000 euro’s of prizes up for grabs.
The rules? Simple:
- Remakes have to be from Spanish games.
- No matter what nationality you are, as you always fulfill the rule # 1.
- The Remakes can´t be updates or upgrade versions from games already published.
- Remakes can be for every system or device.
- Entries for the contest have to be in advanced status, at least a “Beta” version (playable version with more than 70% done).
- Games have to be sent to CEZ Server before 31st of July 2007 at 00:00 hrs. (time in Spain). Beyond this time there won’t be more entries, but we’ll accept updates for entries until 10th of August if they fulfil rule # 5.
- Results will be published in 30st September 2007, in Computer Emuzone website and other media.
There’s a huge untapped wealth of cracking Spanish games crying out for a remake so I can’t wait to see what comes from this competition. So, good luck to everyone and may the best man/woman/team/sheep win!
FreeCol

If you are the sort of person who likes spreading those wild oats and like your strategy games on a global scale then you are sure to enjoy FreeCol. This is an open source remake of the 1994 Sid Meier original, Colonization.
The FreeCol team aims to create an Open Source version of Colonization (released under the GPL). At first we’ll try to make an exact clone of Colonization. The visuals will be brought up to date with more recent standards but will remain clean, simple and functional. Certain new ‘features’ will be implemented but the gameplay and the rules will be exactly the same as the original game. Examples of modern features are: an isometric map and multiplayer support.
Version 0.5.3 was released last month and will work on any machine that supports Java Virtual Machine version 1.5.0 or above.
Doctor Who And The Daleks

The Codex submission to our fun little mini comp is a remake of the remake of the old UNIX game Robots known as Daleks. (Woah, remind me not to attempt to type that again…!)
If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, its very easy to get your head round - simply avoid the oncoming Daleks and attempt to get them to crash into each other for points. The obligatory case of “sounds easier than it is in practice” comes into play here.
To aid your Dalek avoidance techniques you can call upon the TARDIS to teleport you away to freedom, or in true RTD style use the Sonic Screwdriver to get you out of a sticky situation.
You’ll be glad to know that unlike Series 3, The Codex submission is refreshingly Chibnall free.
Sorcery# Update

Doesn’t it just look lovely? Yesterday I got my grubby mits on the latest version of Ian Prices wonderful Sorcery+ remake “Sorcery#” to try and its every bit as nice as you’d want it to be.
Don’t just listen to me though - lets have some luscious pictures of the game in action. Click for bigger!
Deathchase : UFO
