Won’t you just look at the time!
All good things come to an end it is said. Also, on a totally unrelated subject, so does this year’s competition.
It’s time for you to have a rest if you coded a game, or if you didn’t finish your game then get on with it man, no excuses! My pack of wolves is hungry.
If you are not a coder and are just here for the goodies, then you can now get your hands on all the RR COMP 2006 GAMES right now! Enjoy them. Or else.
Many thanks as always to our illustrious sponsors for making this possible as well as our admins, mods and judges.
Now is time for us to get to work, roll up our sleeves and get reviewing. The plan is to be finished by 1st December. Depending on real life factors who knows this date may be brought forward, but it will definitely be no later.
Give yourself a pat on the back, guys - and see you again next year (if I go totally mad, that is). *wibble!*
They’ve all got it infamy!
…Or should I say Infamous?
Yes, that sounds about right. Infamous adventures have just released their rather spiffing remake of
King’s Quest III: To Heir is Human, faithful to the original and all done up in VGA style. The game also features a speech pack if you fancy hearing voices (although these ones don’t tell you to kill people).
So, get yourself over to infamous-adventures.com and download the game!
Compo Update
For those of you with Hotmail accounts where it looked like our mails got trashed (Thanks Hotmail) by them before reaching you, this afternoon I’ve ran the risk of getting myself labelled a spammer and hand delivered your usernames and passwords to your Hotmail addresses so they should now be within your grasp.
Apologies for that, it was unfortunately out of our hands.
Remember, before uploading your remake, please make sure it complies with Rule 5 (The Splash Screen Rule) and features the most up to date splash screen also and with absolutely no modifications beyond instructions on how to progress. That includes the additions of any text/images etc… that do not implicitly state how to progress from the splash screen - so no gurning pictures of yourself if you’re that way inclined, no links to your own websites, nothing but instructions on how to progress and an unadultarated splash screen.
Its not worth getting your entry immediately placed in the “instant disqualification” folder because of a silly oversight.
Other than that, I’m holding off on downloading the remakes until competition close but I’ve had a gander at the screenshots and some of them are looking very tasty indeed.
So, good luck one and all and I look forward to seeing the final versions.
Uploads begin at midnight
…so you have a little under 2 hours to make sure that you’ve registered for your upload spot.
Please, make sure that you don’t get caught out. The Codex’ Entry Tracker IS NOT the registration form and merely provides additional information to those that want to view whats in the works. Make sure you’ve registered with the entry form on the competition rules page.
We’d hate for you to have 2/3 months work go up in smoke because of an oversight. If in doubt - reregister.
The mails go out at midnight tonight and once the mails go out, there’s no more registrations. Please check your junkmail if you haven’t received a mail with your upload details by tomorrow night - if you’ve searched all your mail folders contact us with the name and email address you’ve registered with and we’ll help you get sorted - we’ve got a log of all entrants and it won’t take us long to find your details.
In the meantime, how about some reading material on an upcoming Thrust remake or take half an hour out of your time to listen to an excellent podcast featuring news and reviews on the latest games and a nice proportion of retro remakes news?
We’re taking on a couple of new news posters post compo to make sure that the lull of news is broken, so hopefully very soon we’ll be back with a more regular fix featuring some new and old faces posting for your pleasure.
Its getting close
Well, ladies and gentlemen - its getting close to the time when the uploading of competition entries is due to begin.
Perilously close at that.
The space is near prepared and registration for your upload space closes on the 20th, if you’ve not registered a place - there’s no space. So, if you’re planning on entering and worked hard on getting a game finished or close to finished then don’t scupper all that hard work through a tiny oversight. Head on over to the competition rules page and register right now.
You’ll have a fair window of time in which to upload your game, so again, don’t scupper your chances by leaving it to the very last minute after the slots become available - if its not up and on our server at the stroke of midnight in the UK at competition close, then we won’t be accepting your entry. No excuses, no discussions, no arguments.
Every year we’ve had someone complain because they left it till 2 minutes to midnight and it wasn’t uploaded as we killed the script at midnight.
Don’t be that person, don’t let your hard work go to waste - we want to see as many entries as possible and we want to see your game get through and have a chance. But its on your heads to make sure its in on time.
Good luck one and all (normal news service will resume soon)
