Last night the “big” competition warm up mini-comp drew to a close, and resulted in some very nice games if I don’t say so myself.

In the end there were nine entries, and we are currently running a vote for the best one. Go visit the Vector Comp Voting Thread, download the games and maybe cast your ballot on which you think is the coolest entry.

There are remakes of such varied games as Choplifter, Atic Atac, Scramble, Yar’s Revenge, Space Raiders, Asteroids and more. Please take a look at them and enjoy the fruits of everyone’s labours.

It wouldn’t have been possible to hold it without their help, so mega thank you’s to everyone and to Caff for arranging it.

New’s flash for you all. It’s holiday season and no better place to spend a little while than in the spooky house of Atic Atac which has finally been released by Richard Jordan of RetroSpec after 17 months of hard slog.

Time well spent if you ask me. The game looks very lush and atmospheric and plays very smoothly, and even better hasn’t deviated too much from the charm of the original.

Make sure you have your five fruit & veg a day, and… Get your ACG keys on, rude boys.. Bling Bling!

Came in from the city…

…walked in through the door. I turned around and luckily, I found some remakes news. Fortuitous day indeed.

A bit later than planned but here goes, an eclectic batch of gaming for your perusal.

First up is Joyriders Puzzle Land, a remake of the catchily titled GBA puzzler Daedalean Opus, also known as Puzzle Road. Its available in 2 fine flavours for your perusal and enjoyment - you can give it a blast on your wonderful little PC or if you fancy taking the matter in hand then there’s always the GP2X version. Can’t say fairer than that.

If you don’t happen to have a GP2X to play it on, you’ll be glad to know that its one of the prizes in our competition this year - so you can always snag yourself one later this year with a bit of neat game coding.

Rummaging even deeper into my sack, we have Musti and Gigatrons tribute to the betophatted lord of the manor, Jet Set Willy.

Jet Set Willy 2006 is a homage to everyones favourite character and is to remakes what The Kleptones are to music…

Endurion has been mining the depths also, and has come back for air with his remake of a C64 game I originally encountered on the Speccy (confuzzled yet?) due to Soft Aid. Sadly, you don’t get a copy of Do You Know Its Christmas with every download, so you’ll just have to invite Bob Geldof and Midge Ure into your house for tea whilst you feast upon this remake.

Its Bounty Bob Stikes Back, in case you hadn’t managed to decipher my witterings and it is of course, a classic platformer and the sequel to Miner 2049′er.

Taking you back in time to 1980 now, with MuirCadah’s remake of Avalon Hills texttastical B1 Bomber. Anything that comes with the tag line ‘What it lacks in graphics and sound, it makes up for in thermonuclear ordance…’ is worth a shot, right?

And finally a couple of online goodies for your perusal, if you’ve not yet had your fill of Arkanoid games - then you can do worse than the fabulously titled Plopanoid2, the sequel to Plopanoid. Obviously. Its a java-me-up jobbie and quite nicely done. 50 levels and a littany of power ups await at the end of the linkage rainbow.

And to close this news bulletin of doom, may I present for your edification a Flash remake of Ladybug - the insectual pac man variant. Enjoy.

Guess who’s back?

…Back again - Caff is back - tell a friend.

Hooray I’m here again to bring you some remake news from my magical box of wonders. First we have just the thing to cool you down now the weather is getting warmer. Pour yourself a nice drink and pop in a couple of ICE-TEROIDS to make it complete.

Brought to you by Mark Crawley, as the name cunningly suggests, this is a version the age old Atari vector classic with a sub-zero slant. Another cool (sigh) feature of this version is the addition of multi-player (upto three people) and it also boasts of score multipliers to get you thinking tactically. Chill out and give it a blast.

Are you scared of ghosts? Would you rather have a piece of toast? Fair enough I guess, but if you are a spook fan be sure to check out the latest game by Crozza. Blinky’s Scary School is a ghost-buster busting platform puzzler, where you have to remove traps so that your spectral alter-ego can go on to haunt another day. Personally if I had to haunt a school I would want to be exorcised - it was bad enough being there once.

The next game up isn’t a remake, but it’s so brilliant and retro that I’m going to tell you all about it anyway. I don’t want to inflate the author’s ego, but Within a Deep Forest is ace. This is guaranteed to make you misty eyed thinking about such classic 16bit platform games as Super Frog - and it truly oozes style and is so slick you could use it to gel your hair. You might say I’m full of hot hair, but I hope you will pop it on your machine and give it a go. I hope you enjoy it and don’t burst my bubble.

Now it’s time for me to collapse on the keyboard in a drooling mess due to only having three hours sleep. Goodnight boys and girls, and sweet dreams.
