New New Remakes
Who would have known that in the early years of this century, Darkside was watching us from afar.
5 years on from his very first remake, the Side of Darkness that may or may not be related to the moon, which incidentally is all dark has released an anniversary special for you to enjoy. If you fancy revisiting his Willy, then you can do far far worse than going to check out the copiously titled Willys Miner Nightmare.
And now, a belated Easter special. Its got chicken, its got eggs and its got a cage. No, its not Chicken Run, nor is it The Great Escape (eh? - Ed) its Pobs remake of the A&F standard Chuckie Egg. Featuring all the original levels and some spanking new ones to challenge your jumping skills with. I’ll be returning to it once I’ve finished with the news, top job that man.
Finally, we’re revving up the engines still for the competition and discussion in our forum is already heating up nicely. At the moment we’re just confirming sponsorships with the kind souls who’ve offered to help us get this off the ground and everything is all set for a start on June 1st. Hopefully, we’ll beat 2004’s cracking show, so if you fancy giving it a shot we’ll be glad to see you join in the fun and help us get a whopping amount of remakes out into the wild.
We interrupt this broadcast
…with some important information.
Once I’ve stopped doing laps around the living room in excitement, I’m off to play Ovine and Smila’s spanking new remake of Paradroid.
Yes, you did hear me right. Someone has finally finished a remake of the C64 classic and we’re over the moon.
In fact, so much so, that we’re posting just this news to announce its release.
More tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy.
Time to rally around…
Because Ishi has released a great remake of Push Over to much applause and rapture. This giant among games now has a built in level editor for you all to enjoy too - how cool is that?
If you like puzzle games even more than pizza then this is definitely the Dominoes that you need. It’s not the final version, still having a couple of little tweaks done here and there - but nothing is really missing that I’ve noticed. It’s more than complete enough to be excellently playable, and you should all give it a shot.
Space Invaders with a dash of Defender too? That’ll be Moon Bandits then! Available right now over at Foppygames, this cool hybrid game will keep your trigger finger laughing with glee. Good to see Foppy over on our forums, I hope he will stick around and make more games for us to enjoy.
Try out Moon Bandits right now - it’s certainly not arse.
I know hypotenuse item about this game in the past but now that Weibo De Wit’s Grid Assault has reached it’s final version at v0.98, it’s one to set-square in your sights. If vector shoot-em-ups strike a chord with you then I hope I’m not being too obtuse by saying that this is acute one. That’s my angle on things anyway.
Ok, I’m spent… see you next time!
Bumper me do
Good morning, after a week off to keep the competition news at the top of the page, we’re back with a bumper selection of news to keep you going and tide you over until our next bulletin.
First off the post is Mr Smila (again!) with his follow up to his 2003 Retro Remakes Competition entry, R-Tronic 2. In case you hadn’t worked it out from the title, R-Tronic 2 is the sequel to R-Tronic, the gorgeous looking Robotron homage. This time he’s expanded upon the idea and thrown in collectables, destructable cars (don’t ask) and a huge amount of nasties all skulking in rooms for you to indulge in mindless laser death with.
Still in classic game mode for a brief moment, Crozza has shown us what is the way to do it by resurrecting the old C16/64 Hunchback-a-like Punchy in spanking remake form. Click the link and don’t drop the baby.
I’ve had this one sitting in my mailbox a while and kept forgetting to post it, so big apologies to Tech-vision for the delay. Follow the link through to a spanking downloadable version of Space Invaders now down with the alphabet crew and called Spaze Invaderz. Its from the same gentlemen that brought us the fine Bombjack clone, Jackybomb - so enjoy.
Our eagle eyed moderator Mr Ian Price has stumbled his way into a plot that could possibly threaten the very stability of world peace as we know it, whilst doing some browsing of the internets he’s managed to turn up a game that bears uncanny similarities to Impossible Mission. Which is a top find in anyones books, I’m sure you’ll agree. Its called Ninja Saboteur and was entered into the GameDev 4 Elements IV competition.
Theres more where this little lot came from, but I’m going to save it till later. In the meantime, enjoy your playing and feel free to pop by and comment on our forum.
