I’m all confused…

…there’s a spelling test on the television? Whats that all about then?

Anyway, enough of my confusimibubbledness, lets have some news.

Donning my anti twig gear this time round after the ever so slight delay of posting the last news on this excellent project, the author of MDDClone has dropped me a nod to let me know, and in turn, let you lot know, that the fabby MDDClone 2.4 has flung itself out of the beta stage and out into the production build.

So, what does that mean to you Mr Remake Lover? It means that you can now enjoy and play all of the Mercenary games from the comfort of your PC - for the uninitiated - thats Mercenary, Damocles and the Dion Crisis. A whole bag of Novagen goodness that caresses your cheeks in a 3 dimensional kinda way. There’s also some new goodies on the site for you Mercenary fans including the Damocles box scans and manual.

Fantastic news chaps.

Also sitting in my big bag of remakeness at the moment, comes Matty Lloyds 3d Gauntlet clone Blood and Plunder. Its a whopping 33 meg in size, so 56k’ers be warned that you’ll be in for quite a wait to sample its goodness.

And just in is a clone of Pang for both the PC (Linux and Windows) and that loveable box of beauty that is the Dreamcast. As its so hot off the press, I’ve not tried it yet, so feel free to let me (and the author) know what you think of the game.

Thats all for now folks.

News matron! Bring the bedbath…

Barrie at One Switch has dropped me a line to let me know that one of the competition entries submitted to our One Switch fest earlier this year is up for an award at next years annual Independant Games Festival, which is great news indeed.

The game in question is Strange Attractors and its up for the Innovation In Games Design award.

Fingers crossed for the win, its a sterling effort indeed that deserves recognition.

And don’t forget, just because the competition may be long over - there’s little stopping anyone who wants to contribute a one switch game to Barrie doing so, get it written and drop the man a line. And if you’re reading this and wondering what on Earth I’m talking about, have a read of Rodents excellent interview with the man himself in the Xmas Issue.

“Exolont”

Ok, that was probably the worst intro I’ve managed, but hey - I’ve still got flu, give me a break.

In case you hadn’t gathered it from the abominable pun I’ve just unleashed upon the world, that wonderful Graham Goring has gone and finished his excellent Exolon remake for us all to enjoy via the powers of Retrospec. I really don’t think I need to say much more other than stop sitting there reading this post, clamber over to the Retrospec cubby house and download the thing.

Its a bit special.

Ho Ho Ho

Did I say no PC version of Gunpey? Our resident Remakes hunter in excelsis Mr Flynn has managed to rumage out a java version of Gunpey whilst I was busy typing out the last post. It must be Christmas indeed! Advanced warning for Firefox users, due to the URL of the applet (it contains .ad.jp) it appears to get picked up by adblock, so if you follow the link and there’s little to see - then you know why - you’ve been adblocked baby yeah.

Moving swiftly on and away from the Gunpey, we’ve some more remakes to furnish your face with.

Black Cauldron is a remake of the Sierra On Line game of the same name from 1987 created in the Adventure Game Studio. So for those of you who fancy a bit of adventuring this holiday season, take a meander over and indulge yourself.

Once Christmas Lunch has been consumed, then doubtlessly its time to settle down on the sofa and chill out - which tenuously leads us into a remake of The Settlers (I warned you it was tenuous, blame the paracetamol) entitled Widelands. Its open sourcey and awaiting your mad downloading skillz, and available in Windows and Linux flavours.

Thats all for now as I’m about to eat :D

Hope your Xmas has gone well, ladies and gents. And until the next news post, I bid thee farewell.

The Remakes Invasion

December 25, 2005 · Filed Under Retro Remakes News · Comments Off

Ah, thankfully there’s no killer Santa’s in remakes land tonight so you’re all safe…although, you are looking a bit tired…

Ever onwards with the remakes news methinketh.

First post and its a voyage of discovery care of a Rodent article a few months back which perked up my ears to the joy of Gunpey. Having now sat down and lost a fair few hours to the game this afternoon, I thought I’d go on a rummage and see if we could turn up any remakes.

The game itself, for the uninitiated is deceptively simple - just bridge the gap from the left to the right with lines. Thats all there is to it. Its so simple in fact, it could quite possibly be appalling, but its not - its pure puzzling fun and very, very addictive.

So far, we’ve not been able to locate a PC version for your perusal but we have hit upon Godpey for the Atari STE/Falcon which although a fair few years old appears to have slipped under our radar, so worth a news post!

The other Gunpey variant our little rummage turned up is for the Gameboy Colour and is called Namihey. Hopefully, for those unable to lay their hands on a Wonderswan to try the game out - these remakes will bring the goodness of Gunpey into your home this Christmas.

Shed 7 minus 5

Glorious Xmas salutations chaps. Just a quick heads up to inform you all that after a long night putting it together, Lee Fogarty has put out Issue 2 of the excellent ZX Shed.

Top work by all the team as usual, this issue features 74 pages of Spectrum related goodness, reviews of classic games and remakes and a (gratuitous plug) guide for those who would like to cut their teeth on Remaking (/gratuitous plug) by yours truly. I’ve just sat down and read it from cover to cover in a Xmas splurge and its truly excellent and a job well done.

Hope you lot enjoy it as much as I did, and a hearty congratulations to all involved on an excellent and enjoyable read
