I feel it coming on again…

…just like it did on Saturday.

I guess that must mean its news time.

First up, the ever informative author of the incredible feat that is MDDClone has dropped us another line to inform us of the latest update to his noble quest to bring Novagens excellent Mercenary games to the PC.

MDDClone currently sits at v2.4 and will enable you lucky folks to play Mercenary, The Second City and Damocles and, here’s the clincher - a beta of Dion Crisis, the final game in the series. You really can’t knock that for the grand cost of zero pounds and zero pence.

And whilst we’re in an update kind of mood, may I point you good folks in the direction of the update to the already quite fine Privateer Gemini Gold, which features more high quality textures, a few crucial bug fixes amongst a huge amount of other bits n bobs to improve your playing experience. Top beans, chaps.

And now for something a little bit gorgeous for you to gawp at. TSteroids is not a game about Ben Johnson (boo! Ed) but a rather luscious looking Asteroids style blaster with a glorious style of its own. 25 levels of rock blasting goodness awaits you, its most definitely worth a download just to peek at the graphics alone.

I have no idea why I’ve never posted this before as its been sitting on my hard drive for a fair while now, luckily for those that don’t have access to my hard drive, Flynns just nudged me in the ribs with a reminder.

Master Burner is a fabby piece of work which in case you haven’t quite worked it out from the title, is based on the classic After Burner only with a slightly witchy twist. Its quite, quite ace so don’t just sit there playing with your teddy bears, get on your broomstick and fly on over and download.

Lunar Rescue Denetsu is, unsurprisingly - a Lunar Rescue styled game. Very nice it is too, fair bit of effort gone in there. I just wish people would quit with the “banging techno” soundtracks. Its so 1999. Still, doesn’t spoil an otherwise very good game. Go check.

The obligatory Horace

…or how I learned to close the FTP.

Well folks, the competitions over and its a big thank you to all those who took part and entered some stuffage.

Not a huge response I’m afraid, but at such short notice I wasn’t exactly expecting a deluge of entries. I’ll be working on getting a nice and pretty download page up for everyone after some shopping tomorrow, in the meantime - take a trip into our competition forum here and take a peek at those who made it on time.

Now, I’m off for some rest.

Without further ado…

Competition Uploads

November 22, 2005 · Filed Under Retro Remakes News · Comments Off

Due to the unfortunate timing of our web guru’s ISP deciding to make sure that everything he tries to upload or email times out and that he can’t stay online for more than 10 minutes at a time, we’ve been unable to provide a form for the competition uploads as promised.

For this we sincerely apologise, it was totally out of our control and we’ve been trying to find a way to sort it for days now. Looks like a new ISP for STomps is in order :(

So, with the greatest of apologies for the delay, we’ve set up an FTP and email account that can be used to get your games to us.

Depending on your locale, you’ll either be wanting the UK uploading rules or the INTERNATIONAL uploading rules.

Both the FTP and email address will be killed at the close of the competition so don’t leave it till the last minute if you can avoid it as they won’t make it through to us and you have been amply warned.

Make sure you leave yourself with enough time to complete the uploads.

Apologies and FTP stuffage aside, I look forward to having a run through of the entries when they’re upped :)

Thanks and erm… sorry again!

It’s been a long time coming (wahey!) but it’s finally here!

Today, we launch a new generation of web magazine; something that will hopefully entertain everyone from the retro fanatics to the indie coders. Rewind is the name, and www.rewindmag.co.uk is the place to go!

It has been a great effort to all those concerned in the production of the magazine and I’d like to say a big thank you to all those involved! The time you’ve put into it is greatly appreciated and you deserve all the praise in the world.

If you want to contribute something to the next issue (due 31 December folks!) then please get in contact with me through the contacts page above, or send me a message over the forum.

Here’s to a long and prosperous future for retro journolism. Cheers!

I predict a riot…

…if anyone plays The Kaiser Chiefs around me.

Aside from that small point, lets have some more news.

When not hitting people with his cloud in IRC, Tree/Spork/Bubblefox (how many nicknames does a person need?) is a bit of a Dizzy fanatic. His latest creation featuring the slightly eggy one is a variation on Kwik Snax/Fruity Frank and looking mighty pretty so far.

Kwik Fruit is shy of a few levels though and the poor dude is looking for some assistance in building them. So if you fancy a shot, drop him a PM on the forum and he’ll be eternally grateful.

Timeblasters is a Bomberman style game that seems to have gone down rather well on our forum, sadly, never been able to take to Bomberman games so it’d be unfair of me to comment. However, if its your kinda thang - comments on our forum have ranged from “fab” to “I absolutely love this” so it must be doing something right. Maybe one day, I’ll get my head round the attraction of Bomberman. Until then, if thats your kinda thang - go wild and party. Or something…

Kochonkichi has bounced off Crazy Bumpa in our general direction. Its a remake of the ol’ game Bumpy and rates a whole fun out of ten on the funometer according to the latest readings. There’s a whole ruck of levels for you to bounce your way through, so grab your trampolines and your hammers - its hammer time. No, wait. Bumpy time. Thats it.

I’ve still got loads and loads of news to get through, so should have a fair few more posts over the next few days for your enjoyment.
