Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the front page, here comes the newsbeast with a mouthfull of slippery oil to coat your remake desires with.

Fresh from my woven pouch of news comes a remake of Jumpman from Raptisoft called Hap Hazard. Yes, those crazy fellows who brought you the excellent Hamsterball have turned their hands to an old classic and dragged it by the lapels into the 21st century. Its a play in the browser lark, so just nip on over to their site and play away.

Lookout! No, don’t lookout! Breakout! More! Yes, not content with throwing a ruck of breakout clones in your face, we have the previously shareware Poing which is now free for your enjoyment. Careful now!

In the land of the updates, the one eyed duck is king. Or at least, it wasn’t one eyed until we shot it with a BFG. The eternal classic entertainment of Duck Doom has received an update to become Duck Doom Deluxe. That’ll give our very own DrDerekDoctors a run for his money in the initial stakes! For those who haven’t had the pleasure previously - its Duck Hunt with a flavour of Doom. The mind truly boggles.

Fanboys, please form an orderly queue for a remake of System Shock in the Doom3 engine. Now, now. Calm down please, its still a work in progress but we just had to share, because we love you so much. You can find all the goodness and a few piccys to moisten your doglike noses of this remake, which will be entitled Citadel just by clicking that there bold bit I’ve just typed. Isn’t technology wonderful?

I’m off to kick a chicken. Ta ta.

Hello World…

Are you looking at my remakes? Well…are you?

We’ll have none of that around here. So, instead - here is the news.

Cor, that Mario is a busy fella. When not having his mug shoehorned into every possible genre imaginable, he actually takes some time out to be a bit of a platforming hero. Who’d a thunk it,eh?

Super Mario: Blue Twighlight DX, aside from winning awards for the most insanely long remake title since The Adventures Of Neil:HARH (full name most definitely not safe for work) is a damn fine Mario game that pulls in some of the elements from the 3d Mario games and flings them into a 2d setting, with a smattering of Halloweeny spookiness for luck. Unfortunately, at the time of posting this - the authors bandwidth appears to have been sucked out into the vacuum of space and time. Fear ye not, the intrepid Mr Flynn has been hunting around and managed to locate a mirror for the file. I believe the mirror may be a bit on the slow side, so patience my friends, patience.

Oh lordy, is this theme week? I certainly hope not because its only a matter of time before we’ll be resigned to a day of Pong remakes! Whilst we wait for the moment to arrive, lets have another Mario game. Super Mario 2.5D entails our intrepid plumber being plunged into a world of extruded sprites and 3d views. An interesting take on the Mario concept indeed. I await Mario 1.5D with much drooly chinned anticipation.

I’ve had this little nugget of remakey goodness stashed away for a while now, regular forum dwellers may have already had the pleasure of its mazey bits as I posted it there due to not having a site to link to at the time. But, rejoice people. The time is now to go Berzerk. One of my favourite little blasty games of all time and one I find it hard to comprehend why there isn’t actually more remakes of it out there in the world. Ah wellington boots, at least I can console myself knowing that this is a fine piece of work to play with.

Righty ho, I’m off to eat a creamcake. Later.

Enter the teaboy… ahem

As the newest addition to the Retro Remakes admin team, I get all the glamorous jobs; making the tea, doing the photocopying, etc etc. As my first news assignment it was only natural to start at the bottom. So here it is… I’ve been made to play them all, and by-golly, if these aren’t the best set of Breakout remakes I’ve ever set my eyes on (since the last lot) I’ll eat my badger.

The best of the bunch would probably be Botonoid from Botomap Software, if only for the chance to stun seagulls and bounce them off the deck of your ship. The rather lovely looking Filaxoid from Philippe Filax comes a close second with some nice effects and cel shaded blocks written in Blitz3D.

Bringing up the rear in the ‘does what it says on the tin’ stakes are Nannoid from Phil Hassey (which comes in Win & Linux flavours) and NeverNoid by DoubleDEV. If you’re not sick of them by this stage, there’s always Breakout 3d by Brian Postma to really kill any remaining enthusiasm…

And finally, a passing mention goes to Abandon 2 by Lukas Pikora & Vojtech Michek, a four way Arkanoid clone.

Now that this little lot is out of the way it’s time for some proper remakes news… it’s ‘Hello World’ remakes tomorrow!

Just my restless legs

So don’t go bothering the exorcist!

Right, brief news from the Bob.

Some of the folks over at Sinclair Heaven and the ultimate speccy archive World Of Spectrum have been hard at work putting together a rather nice read in the shape of the wonderfully named ZXShed fanzine. Its in PDF format, so Firefox users without the “save as” option should definitely right click it for fear of FF throwing a wobbly. Its a great little read. Enjoy.

Are you busy in December? If not, then you could do a whole lot worse than a bit of charity action at Kenilworth in the shape of The Retro Ball. Its a retro event in aid of Everyman, which is already boasting an impressive set of guests. Tickets are an absolute steal at less than 8 quid for the Saturday, 5 quid for Sunday or a tenner for both days. Go on, you know you want to.

Montython

Darkside has been busy remaking Monty Mole games using Multimedia Fusion and the power of his fingers! He has two Monty games available to download, which are:

Ohhhhhhhhh… Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Remakes all the way… Moley Christmas is NOT ghey! featuring completly re-drawn Sprites by Ric Lumb (Cheeky Monkey), in-game music and digital sound effects. It’s also worth noting that this is the second time Darkside has coded this remake (it was in TGF before).

Monty on the Run is next and again has completly re-drawn sprites by Ric Lumb, in-game music and digital sound effects. Word on the street says Darkside may be going for the complete Monty collection :)

Next up is a bit of a cock tease, especially for me. It’s a remake of King’s Quest 3, I’ve always been a big fan of this series and this remake looks lubberly. Just a video for now but hopefully should be released very soon, fingers crossed!

I’m gunna post the next game in chav style because our Paper Boy where I live is a friggin’ chav and I hate him! If you’re reading this Paper Boy I hate joo, I hates joo sooooo much!!!
