Big boys come out to play…

Roll up, roll up - for the greatest show in town…its the Retro Remakes newsfest!

First up is the ever reliable Retrospec with their latest addition to the Remakes stable. Yes, its a remake of the old Durell classic “Harrier Attack” which might just have been made in Delphi (just guessing, mind). Form an orderly queue for downloading please…

Yes, all you brownlovers can rejoice as the ever faithful to his pet C64 (called Terry), the bebearded Mr Smila, has finished his tribute to the Thalamus classic, Delta. Personally, I think it needs some sound effects to add some icing to the cake - but other than that, its a cracking version of a cracking game. If you care to walk like an egyptian in the direction of the download, please - feel free to do so.

“Just Hit Somebody!”, so said David Letterman in The Hockey Song - which in a BobTM tenuous link brings us onto our next remake. Kevin Dromereksi threw his sticks in my direction to let me know about his remake of Hatrick, entitled WildLands Hockey. Rather nicely, it comes in two shades - one for the Mac and one for the PC. So, if you like it mano et mano - el grabbo!

PJ Crossley has updated his site since I last took a toddle over there with a few new remakes. His Nibbler entertained me for a few hours during last years competition (not every day you hear that, is it?) and I’ll be checking out the latest additions a little later on. Some intriguing stuff awaits the curious - including a version of Kings Valley with a Dr Who theme. Sounds right up my street. Thanks to Ken Parker for the heads up.

Our ever naked and fumbling ex newsposter dropped me a line to inform me of a remake of Jill Of The Jungle. It looks like its progressing nicely and could be one to keep an eye on. (Make sure you take the eye off afterwards though, it might scare the neighbours).

Got any news? Don’t hesitate to click that button up there with “email” on and drop me a line - always glad to hear from you folks out there in Remakes land…

Space Pig Big News

Good morning one and all.

The Retro Remakes One Switch competition is now 7 days down the line and with 4 complete entries so far, still a few weeks to go if you want to take part and grab yourself some prizes for your efforts. Why not take a peek into our forum and see what go on and help a good cause?

We’ve had a few mentions around the interweb including an article on Media Guardian and a number of notable sites. Thanks one and all for your efforts so far.

Anyway, back to normal business and a few wonderful remakes for your enjoyment.

After a lull of around 4 months, Mersey Remakes are now hosting a couple of new remakes as well as my very own Bobaroids 2.0. For those pining more remakes for their GBA, the occasionally MIA Smayds has finished a sterling handheld version of Bejewelled/Zookeeper style puzzling in the shape of GEMini. Advanced warning that this may cause a loss of extended periods of your life as you sit there jewel shifting on the toilet. Finally culled from the MR site is Shane Hockings remake of the c64 “classic” (worth looking up the Zzap review, chaps) Cops N Robbers. Its manic fun and definitely not a game to play whilst drunk and also as Old Skool as it gets. Enjoy.

The recent flurry of Gollop mania continues apace. First we have an update to Java Laser Squad. The mails fresh in my box, so I haven’t tried it yet - so in true Hitm4n style, here’s what the author has to say… “Now you can move, and use almost every command. And use close combat!”. Go check it!

Whilst we’re still on the subject of Lasersquad, those nice chaps who recently provided us with some Magefire joy have been working on a horror themed version entitled…wait for it… Horror Squad. Sir, with these remakes you are really spoiling us…

Cali has strolled into our forum to tease us mercilessly with more Commodoreness and a rather stonking remake of Frantic Freddie. Its a lovely bit of fun and its nice to see some of the games that you forget existed getting a remake. Thats the spirit, I say!

Good news for Croucher fans as Krytens remake of Pi There continues development. This is a game I’ve been gagging for a remake of for quite a while (not that any forum regulars wouldn’t have worked that out by now) and after the splendiferous Universal Hero, I’m especially chuffed Kryters is giving it a shot. More PiMan games please, chaps!

Finally for now, much Robocop action is ensuing as Ian Price continues his work on, oddly enough, Robocop. I got a sneak preview of this a few weeks ago and I never did get round to replying, so I’ll say in public that it rocks! Keep it up Ian.

Byeeee!

One Switch, many Prizes…

Woah. Just…woah!

Day 1 into the competition and I’d like to thank everyone who’s donated a prize to the cause.

So, thats a great big thank you so far to George Bray and Coders Workshop for stumping up a fantabulous bundle of goodies to the prize fund. Huge hugs to our very own Caff of TCK Soft for another bundle of goodies. Cheers matey.

And it looks like there’s still a few more prizes to be added. More news as we get it. I really can’t thank these guys enough, and I also can’t stress how chuffed I am that such a cause is getting such a great reaction from people across the board, both entrants and sponsors.

And of course, if you’re interested in chucking something into the prize fund or throwing an entry our way - check out the details of the competition in our forum…that’ll be round about umm…here. Every last one of you has made a very happy Bob indeed.

And in other, but no less important news - a few games for your enjoyment.

Havard has released his Dr Who and The Daleks remake of the ol’ classic “Daleks”. A timely release indeed considering the utter brilliance of the new series. Yes, Havard does have a power that would set him up above the gods…

And for those not too stunted by the above Dr Who news, here’s an update of Ultimate Stunts! See what I did there… Ultimate Stunts is a remake of 4d Sports Driving and its looking rather nice indeed. Go and wander over there and get drrrriving.

And finally, after much pain, sweat and agonising screams…Mersey Remakes have released Bobaroids 2.0, the long awaited sequel to Bobaroids 1.0. Its currently available via Mersey Remakes.

Toodloo, and once again - thank you all.

One Switch Competition

April 10, 2005 · Filed Under Retro Remakes News · Comments Off

Yes, we’re winging it as we go along…but to promote greater accesibility in gaming we’re holding a little mini-competition on our forum.

We’re looking for you to help this cause by creating some one key games for One Switch.org

Normally, we wouldn’t be cobbling together anything quite like this and in such a hurry, but a) its for a good cause and b) its a bit of an experiment to see if there’s much interest in holding mini-competitions.

Now, what do you mean by winging it, Mr Bob?

Well, mainly its just to get a few more games out there for One Switch, so we’ve not approached any sponsors - the singular prize has been organised by the Retro Remakes admin team, so there won’t be a huge collection of goodies up for grabs in this mini competition.

If we just get 5 more one switch games out there, then we’ve done a good job and we’ll be happy. If we get 10, we’ll be over the moon - if we get more, we’ll be highly enchuffed beyond reasoning. So, why not drop into our forum and show us what you can do and help out a good cause into the bargain.

Come midnight tonight (UK Time) the rules will be available in our competitions forum.

I’m looking forward to seeing all your entries! (oof!)

Just a few …

Strangely I have had 3 people contact me in the last week to tell me about their new remakes, but the emails have been one paragraph with NO links and just scant detail. I have replied to the authors in the hope I can post some news. However, can you all please bear in mind that we need details to be able to post a good news piece ….

So today’s news starts with a direct link to the forum for details of Shane Hockings Cops & Robbers, a remake of an early C64 that was met with mixed reviews. Zzap64 scored it an overall 9%, but thats probably due to the lack of brown’s used. Anyway all the details are in the thread so no point repeating ‘em here.

Looks like the boys at Park Productions are revamping their Robocop 2D remake to bring out a sequel. The demo they have just released plays much better than the original … one to keep tabs on me thinks.

As for the “One Button Competition”, its STILL going to go ahead. Bob is in charge, he will lead the proceedings and create the rules. Us 3 judges will probably stick a couple of prizes in and see if we can rustle anything else up. It’s been delayed because we were waiting for our sponsor to get back to us with some prizes, sadly he didn’t bother. Yes, Mr Bray, you with the glowing red cheeks.

On a final note, it appears the Stuntmania download I posted about the other day is riddled with Spyware … I have had two reports of this now. Be aware.
