Triple pack …

It looks like Stuntmania, Thomas Harte’s remake of 4D Sports Driving is alive and moving along slowly. It has a new web address and a new set of screenie’s to view but nothing in the way on new downloads.

Fancy a spot of Laser Squad, overhauled in 3d and written in Java ? This new version is also psuedo-realtime for a bit of an added twist. You still have action points to spend, but as they are used up by you and your opponent, they are replenished equally and automatically. This way you don’t have to wait for your opponent to take their whole turn.

Finally for today a project that is never gonna be completed past the first level, but with advanced warning ! It’s called Orn, a remake of the first Brinstar level from Metroid, and it’s being developed for the GBA. It’s meant as part of a degree course in “Multidisciplinary Studies” with the emphasis being that of a side scrolling shooter. I’ll grab this for burning onto my flash cart for later, but it plays equally as well under emulation.

Dr Who starts on Saturday ;)

Dark Phear has used the powers of Derek Accorah to contact us about Double Dragon. Work continues apace according to the psychic waves currently infiltrating my brain and I recommend that you go and check the latest demo on the website for all your Double Dragon needs.

And in “I knew there was something I downloaded last night and forgot to try” news, Magefire the online Lords Of Chaos remake has beta version written all over its guilty face. So, don’t just sit there chewing your toenails - it looks as sexy as a sexy thing in a sexy mag hidden under the duvet from your parents. Go download! I’ll be harassing it as soon as I’ve finished this news post.

Shaf has very kindly sent me a link to a Dungeon Master remake. Its entitled Dungeon Master 2005 (beware the furry things). I might have added the bit in brackets myself…sorry about that. Its in the early development stages at the moment but the author is looking for feedback. So, feed him back.

Some good news from Gilby - Frank N Stein 2002 has been finished. Okay, I know its 2005 not 2002, but its done and its here and it rocks! There’s a few alternate download locations, so I’d recommend you nip on over to this thread and check it out.

And finally, a brief request for those of you with news. As you might have noticed, our old News Poster Hitm4n has now fled to pastures fresh and new so if you could update any of your mailing addresses so that they’re now forwarded to either me,Tokes or STomps it’d be greatly appreciated by us and Hitm4n. Our contact details can be found in the little orange tab above. Thanks chaps.

Enjoy your remakes!

Mercenary etc ….

The author of MDD Clone has emailed to update us on the project’s latest progress.

MDDClone is a remake of the classic Mercenary series and currently stands at it’s latest build v2.1, which not only includes a remake of the original Mercenary but now ALSO includes the sequel Damocles including Escape from Targ and the Second City. Moreover it includes all of the Damocles missions that were provided on the original mission disks !!

Even sweeter is this remake is officially sanctioned by the original Novagen team, so if you are a fan of the game you can download it now, with a clear conscience :)

Ahh Diddums !!

One of the weirdest early Speccy games had to be the flickery looking Ahh Diddums by Imagine Software. I mean as a kid the last thing you wanted to see in a game was killer toys, so you did what any self respecting Teddy Bear would do … built stairs and got the hell outta there !

Paul from Cabisoft also mentioned that there is a small Booty update available from his site. Killer Toys and Deadly Pirates, what a mix !!

I was thrown news of this next remake by Normo on IRC and also kindly by “Javi” on email, and its for all you Wing Commander fans, its a remake called Privateer. I believe Bob reported something about it a month ago but this week has seen the full V1.0 release on Win32, Linux and Mac.

Haven’t had a chance to play it myself mainly cos I wasn’t the biggest WC fan and this remake weighs in at 180mb … however from the screenshots it does look well nice !!

Anyway it’s Sunday, so better get ready for Church :)

We were just playing catch, honest guv…

Remakes + News = Remakes News. FACT

The man with the coolest nick in Remakesland, The Codex has just shunted out some lovely new piccy’s of his forthcoming Tunnels of Doom remake. For those not in the know, its a remake of the TI-99/4A RPG and to these slightly sleepy eyes, looks bountiful. There’s something about Codex clean pixel style that I adore, and hopefully you will too. Goggle and enjoy. He’s also wondering what enhancements people would like to see to the remake, so why not nip on over to the WIP thread and let him know. There’s a poll there with lots of things you can click on.

Samurai Rabbits, its a bizarre concept but an enduring one. And who else would help deliver the goods but Rockfistus, who’s been keeping us up to speed on his remake of the underated but much loved Samurai Warrior. A lot of people have been begging on their knee’s for this game to be remade and so far, its looking the business.

Happy shooting comes in the shape of High Noon from Team SpecNG. So, get your cowboy boots on and whistle some Glen Campbell tunes as you head on over to their website to download this DBPro effort.

Netwars GL… yes please! Mininova have reached version 0.4 and its definitely a WIP to keep an eye on. Retro DOS game fans dying for an XP fix should nip on over there and grab the latest beta el pronto.

In Dev news, Popcap have just released the framework thats used to power some of the hit indie sector games to budding development teams. Good news indeed and a nice way to give something back to the Indie development community.

My sack isn’t empty yet, but you’ll have to wait till later for the rest…

Are they the food of the gods? Its certainly a debatable point, and one I’d like to dwell on at some point…but for now, I fear I must hold off and post some news.

As you might have noticed, yesterday saw the passing of Hitm4n from the RR team - he’s been with RR since before the start of the current incarnation and encouraged many a remaker in their quest - some projects have seen the light of day, some haven’t - but throughout he kept on supporting them and his encouragement will be missed. Hopefully, he’ll still hang around - otherwise I’ll have no-one else to discuss Blockland with. Tata Hitm4n.

Anyway, before I get all sentimental and glubby, lets have some remakes news shall we?

Addink has been assaulting our senses with his damn near pornographic Flash remake of Sentinel, entitled “Sentinel Redux”. Its truly a work of beauty and at the moment its still a Work In Progress - I suggest that if like me, you worship at the feet of the mighty Crammond, you go and check it out now. Even if you’re not a Crammond fan - check it out now, I promise you - its gorgeous.

Whilst we’re on a virtual frapfest in the Remakes department, I suggest to that you visit Spectre Software and check out the latest progress on their remake of Lords Of Chaos - entitled Magefire. Gollop fans and strategy lovers look like they could do a whole lot worse than drool over this little piece of loveliness…hankies to the left, gentlemen…

After the original received a good old hammering in the RR Score League, you can’t imagine the whoops that greeted the news that Uncle is still working on his remake of 3dStarstrike. With a new site and plenty of screenshots for you to enjoy, why not take a trip across the vortex, carefully avoiding trapping Keith Chegwin in a darkened room and head on over to Urban Interactive.

Dan Richardson has been hammering away at his Willy in secret for quite a while now, and the results are splattered on the table for all to see. Yes, finally - to accompany Andy Nobles rather excellent Jet Set Willy remake comes…wait for it…are you ready? Dan Richardsons Jet Set Willy II. As excellent a remake as you could ask for of Derrick Rowsons extended megamix of JSW. Go and get it, I command thee!

There’ll be more later tonight…until then, enjoy your day.
