Get off my desk, pesky cat…
Good morning children, I come bringing bad news and good news. The bad news is I have no emails to cut and paste into this news box, so you’re going to have to suffer my inane witterings padding out an otherwise normal news post.
The good news is that I bring Remake, m’lud.
For your enjoyment is a project I’d completely forgotten about up until one of the authors nipped into IRC to poke me in the ribs and give me a less than subtle reminder.
The long lost Mozzy and his cohort Gepps have been plugging away on 3d Dizzy. Now being developed in the ever slinky Blitz 3d, progress has picked up again and its looking better than it ever did before. Hurray for people! Yay for you! Now, go and view the screenshots, read the diary and leave your mark like a stain upon their site.
And from a personal view, I’m enchuffed that its still under development and not gone the way of so many projects. So, a big huzzah from me.
I’ve seen a sneak preview of it and that makes I happy.
Breed bitch, breeeeed :)
OK, you know that brilliant Alien Breed remake … well like BT Broadband, it just got better.
Author Rob states: “This now has full 3D models for all the players and aliens, 3D blending effects and dynamic shadows. As well as a bunch of fixes, new graphics, re-designs… Alien AI is still shocking but better than it was!”
Well, if quoting emails is good enuff for STomps :s
Anyway, its a 12mb full download and feedback would be appreciated, especially bug reports etc …
The Hard Sell
Quote from email:
“Using Blitz3D, we are working on some projects that I think may, on completion, adorn your pages. My ‘remakes’ are intended to be new, updated, enhanced, full 3D versions of retro gaming fun. Although not attempting to emulate the actual original games, the influences are understandable and heavy. In a way, We are trying to capture the essence of the games, but present them in a format more befitting current technologies.”
Thats what I like, emails which I can copy and paste into a news paste ;) It certainly seems that they have a few projects on the go, hopefully they’ll all get completed! For a quick point of reference, you could, in the near future be treated to the following…
Original Game: BallBlazer (Lucasfilm Games)
Remake: Future-Grid
Original Game: Bloodwych (Mirrorsoft)
Remake: Dungeon Delve
Original Game: Elite (Acornsoft)
Remake: Galactic Allegiance
Original Game: R-Type (Irem)
Remake: Qada
Original Game: Rebelstar (FIREBIRD/blade)
Remake: Moonbase Assault
Whoah! A lot of projects there, not all complete as the author stated. Still, Go and have a looksee. If you see anything you like give some kind words of motivational encouragement. You know it makes sense :)
Shabba!
Chaos looming ….
Pete King from Sceptre Software contacted me to say that their Lords of Chaos remake, Magefire Online, is nearing beta status. They have been working on this since early in 2003 and you can find reports and screenshots of their recent alpha tests on the website.
Don’t push me …
… don’t push me I said. OK OK I’ll post it, just unstrap those grenades from my emergency Hobnob stockpile :s
It’s seems that when Rambo isn’t taking innocent biscuits hostage he is making a comeback to star in a remake of his 1980’s film tie-in game of the same name. This remake is courtesy of Jason Brown (Amazin Jas) and from the screenshots is looking very promising so far.
… nooooooo NOT THE PENGUINS … :s
Various & Retrogamer
As the middle of the month approaches rapidly and you start to wonder what the fuss over Christmas was all about, subscribers have just got their mits on Retro Gamer 13.
This month’s issue of retro loveliness includes the Amiga Forever emulator on the cover disc, and also Smila’s Retro Remake Competition mag and Caffs Transversion, whilst the inside sees an interview with Julian Gollop, creator of the Chaos and Rebelstar Raiders games, amongst a whole host of other retro features and interviews.
Onto normal newsy type things ….
Oddbob has released a demo version of his forthcoming shooter remake of Lightforce … from the pics it looks lovely … clickety click here for all the info. You will see from that thread that after exhaustive questioning, from our very own STompy, the remake will “keep score as we destroy enemy forces” by use of an ingenious Hi Score system and that it will “feature techniques that allow the use of sound effects to be played” … top remaking that :s
Whilst we are talking shooters, it looks like Smila is going to have a crack at remaking the C64 bullet fest Delta (by Thalamus ??). Only two screenies to ogle over at the moment and what with the advent of more colours than brown, shade of brown, off brown and dark tan, it looks like the Geordie graphical maestro will once more be offering up a fully loaded pallette of shooter goodness :)
Shooter season continues with a video showing a demo of the much anticipated, and much delayed, Parallax by ~J~. It’s a pretty poor video but should give you some idea what to look forward too when it eventually “hits the shelves” ….
Worms fans should take a look at a new game being developed by Davidvaz, the as yet un-named remake is a “variation” on the original and borrows from Liero and other types of similar games. No downloads for now, just a series of screenshots. When finished it will feature 4 players against humans and bots - once you get past the Salvador Dali backgrounds this looks like it could be a a cracker.
We have another Bruce Lee remake from Tonisoft on offer which uses the .NET framework. Sadly my experience with this add on has already soured my outlook on .NET games and so I can tell you little more on this one than it’s still at demo stage but due for release soon.
That looks to be it for now folks … until next time :)
