D-Day is here ….
Over 320 registered entrants and just 70 games uploaded makes me fear that tonight is going to be as manic as it was last year with a glut of entries uploaded at the very last minute. Despite us warning you that you should get your entries uploaded slightly early to avoid this scenario it doesn’t seem to have had any effect.
Therefore at least 3 admins will be available in our IRC channel, you can access this using the IRC button on the top menu bar, or if needs be you can email us from the contacts page. IRC is the better option.
This way if you have any queries or problems we are on hand to help. The upload system will be closed at 2359hrs GMT. No questions.
fancy a quickie ?
I was hoping this post would be a good chunk of news about non-compo stuff seeing as the competition is about to end (start panicking people !!) and we will become very busy playing and reviewing them all. There could be a rather long silent period from us but i WILL try to add some news along the way. Remember, just email me K. I reply to all in the end and add what i can…
Well, this good chunk isn’t anything like i’d hoped, i guess non-compo news is very thin right now cos you’re all entering it !!! Anyway, here goes… Oh, and its about quantity not quality that i’m depressed about.
Mark from Logicide Games emailed me about their remake called Circus Irata. Its a freeware homage to the old Atari 2600 game Circus Atari. Its almost at v1.0 and he’d really appreciate any feedback possible about how well it runs (or not) on varying specs. Find the screenshots, info and beta download at the Logicide Games website. Looks very polished too. Check it out.
OddBob has let us know that now he’s finished his compo entries, he’s started working on Vanguard. Vanguard is like a glorified scramble type affair, and is great. You can read his news and see an early wip piccy on his Mersey Remakes site. Should turn out cool…
Caff has finally added Helter Skelter to his projects page, so now i can tell you about it and provide a link ;-) Well, TCK can tell you about it, and show you the pics on his TCKSoft site.
Heres the latest news on Krytens “Universal Hero” remake from the man himself. “Main game engine is now totally complete (bar sound effects), engame messages and deaths are in properly, particle effects are finished bar any options tweaking and all puzzles properly finished. Onto the redefine keys bit next, then trying to gear myself up to sort the sound and music out.” You can check out his screenshots and development news here. Come on Kryters, you know we want it !!
Like i said, not a huge post, but everyones busy.
Enjoy peeps.
Reminder
This is a reminder to all pre-registrants in the 2004 Retro Remakes Competition. We have sent each of you an email detailing how you upload your entries. The closing date for uploads is 2359hrs (GMT) on the 30th September. If you have not received this email or still do not understand how the upload system works then it is your responsibility to contact us via the link on the menu bar.
The reason for this reminder is because it appears that Hotmail and some spam filters may have regarded our original email as spam. We have also re-emailed ALL pre-registrants as a reminder.
Please don’t come to us on the 1st of October and say “I didn’t get an email” because by then it will be too late.
And for those that haven’t finished yet … get your arses into gear cos you only got five days left :)
Uploading Joy !
Firstly… Initial run was a balls up, and 10 people would have received (poor) Scotty’s username/password.. Please ignore that one and naturally, Scotty has a different password now ;) Apologises…
Anyway… Emails have been sent, if you have pre-registered but have not received an email please let me know ASAP so I can sort you out.
Please see forum thread for more info :)
Final warning …
Pre-registration for the 2004 Retro Remakes Competition ends at 2359hrs on Monday the 20th of September 2004. If you have not registered by that time then your entry will not be allowed, no exceptions.
As I write this we have 319 registrants, you can check the registrations here to make sure your name is registered. It is your responsibility to make sure you are registered.
Shortly after this time you should receive an email containing details of the upload system we have created, giving you a unique username and password. The upload system will be disabled at 2359hrs on the 30th September in accordance with the rules. You should make yourself familiar with the system before this time to avoid any last minute hitches, perhaps test it with a 500k zip.
Anyway you have less than two weeks left so get coding :)
Sorry Peeps…
We all get a bit busy sometimes, and things have been going on behind the scenes here (read: we’ve all been playing CS - lol, j/k) Well heres another email and forum cleanup post.
Ignacio Perez Gil has finished and released Humphrey on the Retrospec site. To be honest i don’t know the original, but it looks kinda like a cross between Bounder and Bombuzal. Weird huh ?? Well, it also looks great, so stop by and grab this new release.
Theres quite a bit more news about Ah Diddums on the Cabisoft site since i last mentioned it. This game really is one to keep an eye on, and you’ll see its coming on really well. Tis gonna be fun to play !!
2 Games from our lists here have moved home. Chaos Funk (Chaos) and Dynamite (Bomberman) are now on the ReflectedGames shareware site. The 2 games remain free for download and if take a look around you might find his new release (the new one is shareware though).
BrainGames are working on F1 Spirit for our compo here. Anyone that wants to read up on development, or see some development piccies should check out the games Forum Page.
Oolite, the Elite-alike game for Mac OS X has been updated to version 1.30. Changes between 1.20 and 1.30 include ship speed increased, loads of bug fixes, improved AI, iTunes integration, multi-targetting and scanner upgrades, better gfx and more. Check it all out (you maccers) on the Oolite page.
Heres one that Flynn found for us. “Sam & Max Hit The Road” (demo version) is available here. Its well worth trying this and keeping an eye out for the full game. Gave me a chuckle although the demo is a little limited. However, it does show the level of work thats gone into it.
Thanks to a mail from Jaakko Salminen, we now know about this Bubble Bobble inspired remake. It has the odd title of “Gormless Bubbling” but looks like a neat little platformer. Claims 50 levels and great gfx. Check it !
Road Rash Revolution can be found here. I think this is a mod for the Beats of Rage Dreamcast game. I’m confused…. It looks neat, and if you know whats going on, get it.
I’ll maybe post more later today, or tomorrow…
