24hrs late ….
I mean’t to post this yesterday sorry. Retrogamer Issue 6 is out, with a look at the history of Atari, a series on text adventures & a project to build your own arcade machine.
With the Olympics almost upon us they also look at all the old Olympic arcade games such as Daley Thompson’s and Summer Games. Finally a look back through the myriad of JSW and MM remakes, with each one available to test on the cover disc.
A quick update …
Jetman’s Dad seems to have ironed out some of the problems he was having with Tranz Am and has released a one level beta demo which you can grab from his site. This was a game I myself looked into doing a couple of times and what with Monster entering “Tranz Oz” as his compo entry it looks like this Ultimate classic is finally getting the exposure it deserves.
Void Filler
Ok, heres a few that we’ve had kicking round for a bit and failed to post.
Flynn let me know about a WIP Spanish remake of Sir Fred. Its not the same as a previous one we’ve mentioned (i think) and the screenshots do look pretty spectacular. Theres some great stuff coming from these Spanish remaking teams and coders… Anyway, whack that rat on this Sir Fred site for the skinny.
How cool does Teppey look ? I love pipemania and tetris games, so this looks pretty cool to me !! This site is pretty tough to actually find the download, so firstly click the top menu link from the link above. That’ll get you a couple of screenshots. Then (i’m gonna be a bit naughty) here is a sneaky direct link for the download.
Jason M Hirst (known as ~J~ in our forums here and in IRC), a C64 game remaker has started Titan. This is a kinda puzzler version of breakout and from the description sounds pretty neat. (I’ve never played it, can you guess ?). Well, theres a 5 level demo available on ~J~’s site so go check it out.
Xevious is a popular shooter with many people and this remake looks like it’ll satisfy. The game is called PolyPolyX and you’ll find the download link in the top right corner.
Finally for now, Flynn found a cutesy remake of a Nes game originally called Kickle Cubicle. Its kinda like a puzzle version of Pengo ? See the pics and grab the download from this page.
enjoy.

Flash remakes have always been overlooked by a lot of people, naming no names (Landore) I feel these people (Landore) are wrong, very very wrong! I urge you to play League Bowling and not end up in a compromising position with the legs of your chair. And if things couldn’t get any better, this site plays host to other remakes too, including Frogger, Iron Mike’s Punchout, Donkey Kong, Bomb Jack, Bomberman, Castlevania and more!
If Mario and javascript is your thing then you might like to try this Mario remake written entirely in javascript! features 7 levels and a downloadable package if you wish to play offline. It IS in jap. though, but easy enough to play ( cursors + shift/ctrl ).
Nebulus is a great game! Also, by the same guy is a remake of Thrust, possibly even polished more than Nebulus. Both of these remakes are very well polished, a joy to play! Some of these flash games are more polished than offline games, I’m impressed! Not to mention Thrust is done in ONLY 45.6k, and people were moaning about the 10meg compo limit, shame on you ;)
200 up !!!
And Jimster/Dante makes it 200 registrants :)
We are truly overwhelmed with the response so far to the 2004 Competition, and to think we nearly never had one.
For the record we have yet to receive ONE response from the 18 or so “Big Boys” we contacted, not even one saying “No Thanks”. So we have even more respect for all of the sponsors of this year’s competition. Thanks to all of you.
And thanks to all the registrants, keep em coming …
Easily impressed :s
Knowing jackshit about music I was well impressed to see this little video. Its 8mb so unless you have broadband it’s gonna take a while but is worth it !!!
I won’t spoil it, but will say “Do do do, da do do” …
** Have now fixed the link for direct download !!
