Starquake ++

April 30, 2004 · Filed Under Retro Remakes News · Comments Off

Looks like Starquake will finally see Daylight.

News reaches me, actually it reached me this morning but I forgot about it if truth be known but hey, well I was saying news has reached me that Sickfish and Damien have joined forces.

Rather than two remakes of Starquake we will now get one, a combined effort between the two. Now SQ was one of my fave games and this news can only be considered as wicked news. To quote some bloke … “Is it done yet ?” :)

Its good to be back!

Well, after what seemed like years without net access.. I’m back, and badder than ever ;)

Looky what we got here peeps, some speccy magic! Big shout out to havard who posted about it in our forum. You’ll need the Spec256 v1.2 emulator to play these 256 colour versions! Now go.. Enjoy :)

You like Castlevania? Well, here we have a remake using

the Quake engine. Its a 3D side scroller, weighs in at 9.41meg and is OpenGL baby! Now, somebody tell me why the url has a Rotten Turd in it? Thanks to the author for emailing it to us, much love k ^_^

You like cliff-hangers, in films? soaps? whatever - If you answered yes, try out this remake. There are also a few more games on the same website, omg - its like bloody Christmas!

I love Pang, I pang at least once a day.. Its true. You can do some panging yourself by clicking here. It is, of course a remake of PANG, the website is in some kind of foreign language though, so save yourself a headache and download it directly :) Many sweet things in the direction of the author who emailed us about it.

Before you starting moaning like a bunch of soppy girlie girls, here’s a Tetris remake which is brilliant! It has gravity, uses OpenGL and is a little bit columnish too. But don’t take my word for it, no no no.. check it out for yourselves.

I’m scared, I can see the shadow of a beast! And its on GBA baby, check it here :)

What? How? More remakes on the GBA, its all too good to be true :) click bananas for a Nebulus remake ( loving it! ) and click turnips for a very sexy remake of deflektor. Big sloppy kisses to Joe Dalton for letting us know about Nebulus and Deflektor :)

Word Life, STomps

Following yesterday’s appeal, for remakers to submit their new releases via email as well as on the WIP Forum, we have 3 new games for you …

The Ovine Boys are hard at work, having released XOR, they are now working on a remake of Rockman. Anyway, I digress, XOR is a fiendishly tough puzzler from the 8 bit days, but brought upto date with lovely new graphics and an online scoring and replay system. Nice one lads :)

Next email was from PeeJay, who as well as insulting me also managed to reveal that Pyramania, boasting high speed platform action & all new graphics. Also mentioned is Mini Invaders, this alien invasion of earth pits you against 352 of the litte basta … erm blighters per level.

And finally Geekay popped up from behind Hadrians Wall to tell us about Aquarius, his remake of the old Speccy classic by Bug Byte, not much to see apart from a WIP screenshot but knowing him it will be finished before long !!

Thanks to those three for emailing, plenty of others didn’t or haven’t seen my rant so a quick list of games showing in the WIP forum are …

Penetrator by Bankie

Jet Set Willy 2 (the Win32 version) by Dan Richardson

Pengo by Skimpy Joe

Project Paradroid, a joint effort from Scottige and Smila

Spinvaders by J Nutting.

Thats that all up to date then. Phew !!

IK+ and many more …

First offering out of the bag today is a website offering a number of games including Cliffhanger and Lode Runner amongst others.

International Karate + fans might wanna chart progress of this Div game. It’s only single player with Monkey King as your opponent for now but an update is expected soon.

Flynn spanked me and pointed out the the page we posted for Erik vs. Erik also has a nice version of Lady Bug called Minor Bug. Must miss games more often :)

A Two for the price of One deal with Quadromania. Both of them, funnily enough, are called Quadromania, which is great cos I haven’t a clue what it was or even what it is. Here are links to Version #1 and Version #2.

Talking of Puzzle games we have

” target=_blank”>Spryjinx, a remake of a little known Atari 2600 puzzler that as far as I can see was only released Stateside. As I am not a great puzzler fan I will leave the comments on this one to you lot.

Finally for today I am going to rant a little and point out some functions of the website and forum.

Lots of you post news in the Work in Progress forum about games that have been released or started. Please email us using the Contact Page and we also post news here on the main page. Loads of news has been missed in this way …

And finally, PeeJay has asked me to point out his two Blitz tutorials available via the forum, its a shame more of you don’t contribute here … Anyway I’m off to bed …

Lets play Catch Up

April 21, 2004 · Filed Under Retro Remakes News · Comments Off

In the words of lunchtime TV Quiz presenter Henry Kelly, lets play catch up, and bring you uptodate on all the news we have …

Did you fall for the PSX2 Eye Toy gimic, if so this remake is just up your alley. iCamPlay Breakout is a Breakout clone where you move the bat with your hand literally … using your webcam. Haven’t tried it yet but looks good fun …

Caffiene Kid told us about this next one, and I have to say its one of my all time fave games … Amidar. Erik vs. Erik is a nice cartoony remake of the maze games where you have to colour in the blocks. Simple, yet fun.

Another one Caff mentioned was this Puyo Puyo remake called Chain Raid, he assures us its very, very addictive. Anything that stops him from remaking is classed as “addictive” tho :s

Another Arkanoid/Breakout clone can be found on this Japanese website, for those of you that are not fluent in the language the direct link is here.

Mister Byte of the Twin Eagles Group mailed me recently about Dog Daze, which is a remake of an old Atari 8-bit game of the same name. I know nothing about this so will just post the link …

And finally for today, a trio of Pure Basic remakes …

First up is Crillion, a remake of an old C16 puzzler, and also generic versions of Space Invaders and Pacman - both of which Flynn assures me have cracking intro tunes.

It breaks my heart …

Received an email from Havard Spring detailing his new Frogger remake, and when I clicked the link my heart sank … there before my eyes were the gfx Ric Lumb had done for me to use on my Frogger remake :s

To be fair to Havard tho my remake has been idling on my hard drive for over six months, whilst he has been hard at work producing a nice version in Blitz. Here are links to both his full version and my very much alpha version.

Suffice to say my version is now canned :)
