He Pulled out a plum…
Tom DX is now released and V1.0 awaits you. This is a tasty remake of Tom Thumb from the Commodore 16/116/+4 and looks very much in the Mario mould. Definately one to try out !
And no Richard Whiteley
Dida dida diddaleedoo… booooo…….
Erm, good impression eh ! Grab Countdown for some wordy fun courtesy of Darren hutchison.
email clearing…
I’ve been quiet for a few days now, but now that Halo is completed i am back - lol ! Got a few emails in the meantime, so here they are. Many thanks to all contributors, keep em coming.
Wonderboy 7 off the Sega Megadrive is available from here. There isn’t a website, and i haven’t downloaded it, so be careful…
This site has a cool retro flash game. Its called “domo kun: angry smashfest” and is kinda a multiremake. Flynns got a tough job putting this in the right place… lol. From the email :- When you lose a life, there is an “altered beast” sequence, theres a Street Fighter and Final Fight car smash, and later in the game you fight in a Golden Axe part. Bizarre…
Now for a nice 2D multiplayer online asteroids (kinda) game. Titled Oddspace and fully written in java.
V1.5.1 of MDDClone, a Mercenary clone, has recently been released. Its freely available for download from this site and the new features include full screen + multi-lingual support. More details are on site.
Finally, a Scorched Earth clone called Atomic Tanks. If you like this type of game then check out the screenshots. It looks pretty cool…
have fun.
Issue Two …..
Not only is Smila a graphics guru & a prize winning remaker but he is also author and creator of Issue Two of the Retro Active magazine.
He’s put helluva lot of work into this issue, mainly on his own cos the rest of us (apart from Hitm4n) were too lazy arsed and had to be prodded at every twist and turn. With reviews of Head over Heels & Klass of 99, game previews, cheats and articles galore, it really is worth the download.
Nice one Smila … again :)
So impressed was I …
I found a video whilst browsing the net this morning, some Japanese guy completing Super Mario Brothers 3, from start to finish, in 11 minutes.
It really is awesome to watch, especially the way he sails thru some of the “easier” levels and how skillfully he deals with the later levels. Bowser doesn’t stand a chance.
Weighing in at about 15mb’s its not for 56k’ers, and should the link go down I have a backup I will stick on our server for a while if asked.
Massive Mixed Bag …
Lets start with a virgin … remake that is, from the coding arm of Jetman’s Dad, a remake of the early Speccy classic Spectres. It’s sort of Pacman in reverse, lay the bulbs and light the lights to scare the Spectres away. Just a 4 level demo so far but it looks very promising.
I can’t believe that N.O.M.A.D. has remained as a thread on the forum and not yet made it here to the news section. Anyway its a remake of the old Ocean flip screen shooter being done by Caffiene Kid and Smila.
Its being 3D-ify’ed and Textured as opposed to a straight tile based remake, and having played an early tech demo I have to say it looks lubberly.
Not content with the success of Fred, PeeJay has decided to bring us a sequel of sorts in the shape of Pyramania, its a little known Bug Byte platformer. Using Kermit as the star once more, work is progressing well with a demo and one screenie already available to view on his website.
0ddb0b next with a yuletide offering, Xmas Technician Ted. Twenty rooms of Ted type platform mania, with lucious amounts of Xmas decs, should be released just as you are tucking into your turkey. Whoaah, B0b I said tucking :s
Scottige has blown the dust off of his Dizzy engine, tarted it up a bit which he will use to bring us A Very Dizzy Xmas. Sadly it doesn’t include as much pr0n this time around :(
Next up we have Back 2 Skool announced on the forum by LongShot75. Sadly there is no website or screens to look at so far but it has already whipped up a storm of interested followers.
Other items of note, from the forum, to look out for include Normo’s Creatures which has been completely restarted using Gamemaker 5.1, malCanDo’s shareware remake of
3D Stress Ball and finally Repton.NET, a Repton Remake for Microsoft’s .NET framework.
So far we also have two Xmas card type demos, done just for fun by Smila and Normo. I am sure there will be more of these to follow too …
