Last update of the year AND the largest I’ve ever done! This lot should keep you going well into the New Year and some weeks after….

Gordon King has finally finished his remake of Fantasys ‘The Pyramid‘… get it while it’s hot! Thanks to Gordon for the info and the insightful email!

The E: partition on my 1st hard drive is getting *very* full and needs emptying quickly… so here are some remakes that are of the larger download variety. Hold on to your hats!

Asteroids - Dispersion

Bomberman - Bomberguy, Bomb Blast

Breakout - Deathbrix, Ultranium 3D

Columns - Vertrix

Krakout - Krakout Unlimited

Pacmania - New Section

Pong - VBPong

Puckman - Fred’s Bowling Nightmare, MoneyMania

Tetris - Tetris Adventure, HaCKeR

Paul Robson sent in some more fixes for his remakes! Both Football Manager and Bugaboo have had updates to fix video problems some people are having…. not noticed any myself but there you go

Molefest for DOS & Windows has been updated to v1.05, this is a cool Pipemania clone with a twist in it’s tail ;o)

More new additions - Hamsters… a cool Lemmings ripoff!

Anym sent along a remake of Gyruss! Dagyruss is an excellent blast and was made by none other than Bio_100% who also made Carax 95 & the excellent SuperDepth! It’s a shame it didn’t retain the originals *awesome* soundtrack… can’t have everything I suppose

Anyone up for another Atari 2600 remake? Gunfight is a pretty good version of the same-named original… if anyone has any other remakes for the original classic console then let me know!

Right that’s it for 2001…. hope you’ve had as interesting a year as I have, and now onto 2002. What will that bring? Who know’s…. who gives a flying f**k really! New Years Eve is a great excuse for a piss-up - as if I need any prior invitation…

A HUGE update of Amiga remakes today…. there should be something for everyone here. Not got an Amiga? Well then either buy one off eBay, go to a carboot sale, or use an emulator :o)

Artillery - Tanx, Tykkipeli, Bomb

Zaxxon!

Missile Command - Incinerator, Missile Defense, Missile Command

Revenge of the Mutant Camels!

Pong - Poing 2, Bounce Ball

Galaxian - Girl Actions, Galaxians….right I’m fed up… ;o)

As many of you will have noticed Retrospec’s web site has been down for a good while now so not being one to hang around I’ve mirrored their files till they come back online…

A quality update today…. not much crap here

River Raid 2 - An extremely accurate remake of Activisions classic

Smash - An excellent Pong remake for 2 - 4 players…. probably the best multiplayer version I’ve seen to date….

Tetra Blocks - Tetris for 1 or 2 players… excellent stuff and great MOD tunes too

Some submissions from our friendly remake hunter Arturo Tuya… what have we got then? Command Raid, a remake of Paratrooper for which I’ve made a new section!

A long overdue update of Dennis Pasveers Kings Valley II remake!

Lunar Lander, the most accurate remake of Atari’s original yet made!

….and a link to a work in progress remake of Sensible Soccer called ‘Shezzor’s Soccer‘!

Pick of the Month‘ for January 2002 is here…. a few days early as usual, and slighlty controversial depending on where you stand on the system it’s on :o)

Oh my f**king head…. I can work rather fast even with a hangover, so here’s the post-Chrimble update earlier than expected[NL]______________________________________________________[NL]I’ve made some slight cosmetic changes to this here index.html, I hope it’s a little easier to read. Thanks to the people who requested the change, I thought it was only my eyes that hurt reading a size 2 Times New Roman font :o)[NL]______________________________________________________[NL]Paul Robson has been a busy chappy, as well as sending along a fix for his remake of Football Manager[NL]he’s also sent over his new remake of Bugaboo which is rather spiffy! If anyone could send along a screenshot of this for the archive page I would appreciate it, if not some DOS utility for grabbing screenshots will do…[NL]______________________________________________________[NL]To the right are some more remakes of Jumpman, huge thanks to Matty of the excellent fan-site ‘Jumpman Lounge‘ for the info![NL]______________________________________________________[NL]Deluxe Snake for Windows has been updated… unfortunately the DOS version is no longer being updated or supported but I’ll carry on hosting it here until I get an abusive message from the author :o)[NL]______________________________________________________[NL]I supposr now is a good a time as any to plug the mailing list. If you want the previous months site updates mailed direct to your inbox at the start of every month then click here and send. It saves scanning through old news doesn’t it? It’s unobstructive, you don’t have to visit the site and sift through my babblings and it costs you nothing…. you can’t go wrong :o)

Shit, shit. and thrice shit. On Saturday I spent my £50 Chrimble bonus on a brand spanking new Hercules 3D Prophet 4000XT Kyro 32MB monster gfx card to replace my worm out and slightly long in the tooth ATI Rage 3D II+ 4MB jobbie.[NL]Unfortunately upon purchasing said card I didn’t read the retail box correctly - the new card will only work with Windows 95 OSR2 and greater :o( I was using OSR1! It only took me a whole twelve hours of cursing and punching the wall to realise this!!!! If only I’d read the box correctly at PC World I would have saved myself no end of frustration :o/[NL]Suffice to say I’ve had to reinstall a newer version of Windoze (98) and thus I’ve lost pretty much *everything* including all my emails and passwords…. so if you’ve mailed me in the past few days send it again.[NL]To be honest at this time of year I can’t be arsed with much never mind messing around re-installing all my software so expect the next update to be over a week from now…. sorry but that damn new graphics card has a lot to answer for…. mind you it is f**king faaaaaaaast! =o)

Nearly Chrimble again, don’t expect a mega-huge update to “celebrate the event” ‘cos I ain’t going to be doing one! I’ve got the whole of Chrimble off this year (24th Dec - 4th Jan) so I *will* still be doing regular updates over the holiday period but just not on the odd few days when I’m pre-indisposed - pissed in laymans terms :o) [NL]I as many of you have a family there in real-life-land so I suggest you do as I will be doing and spend Christmas Day with them and not infront of this screen getting radiation burns ;o)[NL]Ok, sermon over :oP[NL]______________________________________________________[NL]New Sections!!!! Nemesis! Astro Blaster![NL]______________________________________________________[NL]…and some more remakes for sections already listed…[NL]Little Boulder in Diamonds Land - Boulderdash, Amiga[NL]Minetrasher - Boulderdash, Amiga[NL]Ant Hill - Dig Dug, Gameboy[NL]Jet Set Billy - Jet Set Willy, Amiga[NL]Llamatron - Robotron 2084, Atari ST[NL]______________________________________________________[NL]For all those people who emailed me (4!) about the whereabouts of the Retrospec team, I can reassure you they are all alive and well and it’s only their ISP which has f**ked up their server :o) Thanks to Neil Walker of said team for the reply to my mail.[NL]______________________________________________________[NL]Off topic but on my mind is the recent passing away of Chuck Schuldiner, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter of the Metal band ‘Death’. Chuck lost his battle with cancer and died on December 13th…. those of us who listened to his music in years past and present will remember an awesome talent.
