Well what a roller coaster that was. The number of entries and the sheer amount of effort that everyone put into this competition easily surpassed our wildest dreams. We were hoping for 50 entries but you gave us 83. Thats brought the prize fund to nearly £5000 ... that's quite astonishing if you think about it.
Its also served to open the remakes scene up to a whole host of new people. The number of forum members has doubled, and so has the amount of activity as a result. Of course this has led to many interesting chats, debates and arguments. Our IRC channel (#remakes on any EFNET server) has also never been busier.
Once the competition deadline was up and we had finished collecting and setting up the entries the onslaught began. We sucked up over 80 gigabytes of bandwidth in August, far more than any of us bargained for. We were forced to ask for donations towards the bandwidth costs and so many of you stumped up cash towards the bill for which we are all extremely grateful.
Once the first few hectic post-deadline days were out of the way we started on the reviews and selecting the winning entries. We have worked hard on this, with 83 games to play fairly and reviews to do for each entry, it took quite a bit longer than the four weeks we anticipated, for which we sincerely apologise.
Anyway thats enough waffle ... onto the thing you really want ...

If you have won a top prize then we will be in contact with you shortly via the email address that you submitted your entry from. It is very important that you let us know if this email is no longer valid. We will ask for your details and then pass them onto the relevant sponsor whose responsibility it is to send out your prize(s).
We will NOT be emailing entrants regarding their free copy of Dark Basic, however it is still very important that you update us with your new email address if it has changed since you sent in your entry. We will pass all of these email addresses over to Dark Basic Software who will contact you with details of how to get your prize. The free copies of Dark Basic are an electronic download.
If you have any problems with any prize or if we do not contact you and you think we should have then it will be your responsibility to email one of the Retro Remakes team and we will investigate. Please do not hammer us with mail asking for your prizes as these will be sorted out as soon as possible.

Given the success of this competition it goes without saying that there will be a next one. Don't expect it that soon tho. For once the team at Retro Remakes knows what its like to be under immense pressure to deliver, much the same as you guys do when it comes to releasing your games. It will be nice to actually have a social life back for once and not to have to worry about the competition reviews after a long hard day (or night) at work.
We learned a lot from this competition. We took criticism and complaints on the forum and managed to deal with most of them amicably. We disqualified one game due to it being started in 2000. We were not prepared for the bandwidth. We were late with the results due to circumstances beyond our control and the sheer number of entries. All of these things will be taken on board and will hopefully be addressed when we plan the next competition.
Although no decisions have been made yet there is one thing for certain - its going to be a tough job following this one. Expect the next one sometime after the launch of a spanking new design for Retro Remakes. This is still in the early planning stages still so don't expect too much too soon.
For now we are all going to take a deserved break and get down to some serious gameplaying and to concentrate on maintaining the existing design and helping the remakes community to become even bigger and better.
All that remains is for us to thank you all for all your hard work and for helping to make the first Retro Remakes remake competition a huge, huge success.
